The UDT exam for foreigners: learn with the Polish original

Combine translated explanations with Polish technical wording and plan translator arrangements early.

Study language and exam language differ

The UDT exam takes place in Polish. A candidate whose Polish is insufficient must arrange a sworn translator. Ukrainian, Russian and English versions in the trainer help you understand the material while studying. Selecting one does not change the language of the actual examination. Make this distinction before booking so you have time to organise the support you need and avoid relying on an incorrect assumption.

Ask the organiser how to arrange the translator’s participation and which details are needed. Sworn translators cost from about PLN 300 per hour. Treat that as an approximate starting price and ask your chosen translator about the terms for your situation. Do not assume that a friend who speaks Polish can fulfil the same role.

Read both versions together

In the Ukrainian, Russian and English interfaces, UDT Trener shows the translation followed by the Polish original under the question and each option. The original is enabled by default and can be hidden with a toggle. Keep both versions visible when starting. Understand the situation in your language, then find the same conditions in the Polish sentence. This connects meaning with wording you will gradually learn to recognise.

Avoid translating every word in isolation. Find the equipment name, action, condition and prohibition. Notice negative wording and check which part of the sentence it changes. Read short Polish phrases aloud and connect them with an illustration or action. You are learning how the words work in context, rather than only memorising a dictionary equivalent.

Keep a small personal glossary

Write down phrases that actually stop you answering a question. Add a simple meaning in your own language and the question number as an example. Mark verbs describing the operator’s actions. Do not copy the entire bank: short notes are easier to review before your next session. If a word appears in different situations, compare the examples and consider whether the context changes your interpretation.

After several sessions, try reading the Polish version first and using the translation to check. If the translation changes your answer, identify why. You may have misunderstood the technical principle or missed a negative word or condition. These need different practice. Discuss uncertainty about safe operation with an instructor; a language glossary alone cannot resolve every technical question.

Add timed practice gradually

Once questions become clearer, try a timed attempt. The simulator uses the format described by training centres: fifteen questions, thirty minutes and at least eleven correct answers. Notice what consumes your time: the Polish sentence, a diagram or deciding which rule applies. A total score cannot tell you this on its own. Review mistakes and correct answers that were uncertain guesses.

Before the real examination, confirm its place, time and document requirements with the organiser. If a translator is attending, make sure both parties share the same arrangements. Leave time to resolve differences. Theory practice in an app remains only part of preparation. Practical exercises and understanding instructions around equipment also need attention. Collect questions from your independent study and discuss them with your instructor before the examination.
